The Scaredragon

Once there was a village that was always being attacked by a dragon and so the villagers, inspired by the scarecrows in their fields decided to build a giant scarecrow or scaredragon to scare the dragon away.
The whole village worked for days to build it; the village carpenter designed and built its frame; the women of the village sewed a giant suit of clothes for it to wear and the farmers stuffed it full of hay and straw then the whole village pulled together to hoist its ragdoll body up onto its frame.
And when the scaredragon was completed they all waited for nighttime because that was the time when the dragon usually attacked.
And when the dragon came swooping through the dark; seeing the giant shape of a man standing in the village, it was frightened away.
And the same thing happened the next night and the night after that and all the people of the village thought that their scaredragon was a marvellous success.
However, one day the dragon decided to attack their village during the day and because it was still light when the dragon saw the scaredragon he could see that it was not a real giant.
Angry with the villagers because they had tricked it, the dragon breathed out a torrent of flame upon the scaredragon and, because it was only made of wood and cloth and straw, the giant scarecrow was burned to the ground.
And after it had destroyed the scaredragon, the dragon attacked the village as usual causing havoc and destruction.
Throughout the village there was sorrow and weeping.
"Now that the dragon has destroyed the scaredragon, theres nothing to keep it from attacking the village", people started to say, "We may aswell all pack up and leave".
And so the next night everyone, rather than face the wrath of the dragon, packed up all their possessions onto wagons and prepared to leave their village for somewhere safer and, just as they were leaving they heard the usual sound of the dragon beating its giant leathery wings and roaring as it flew closer.
But then, suddenly, to their astonishment, a real giant appeared out of the darkness and, seizing hold of the dragon with one hand, opened up a giant dragon cage before locking the dragon inside it.
And seeing the dragon put in a cage, the villagers were overcome with joy.
"Oh thank you, giant; thank you!", they all shouted to the giant.
"Thats alright", replied the giant, "I saw what the dragon did to that other giant, you see, burning him to the ground and I felt my poor giant friend needed to be avenged".
And from that day on the villagers were never bothered by the dragon again and all lived happily ever after.
