Once there was a poor young orphan boy named Sky Blue who fell deeply in love with a girl named Rose Pink, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy lord and she loved him dearly too.
Unfortunately, Rose Pinks father did not want her to have anything to do with Sky Blue.
"The Daughter of a lord cannot love a peasant boy", he said, "You will never see Sky Blue again. Do you understand?"
Poor Rose Pink was heart broken by her fathers commandment because she loved Sky Blue so much that a life without him seemed unbearable but there was nothing she could do about it because her father was so powerful and her father even, going to the cottage of Sky Blue threatened him that he would kill him if he ever saw Rose Pink again.
And poor Sky Blue, because he loved Rose Pink, was heart broken too and would often go into the forest and, looking at himself reflected in a lake, say,
"If I cannot marry Rose Pink then I would rather lie at the bottom of a lake with my mouth open for the pain of being kept apart from her would be worse than the agony of drowning".
One day, however, while Sky Blue was alone in his cottage, feeling miserable, a strange man appeared infront of him in a brilliant burst of blue light and a cloud of blue smoke; a man dressed in blue velvet with a long ermine trimmed cape upon his back and a silver crown upon his head.
"Who are you?", he asked, startled.
"I am your father, Sky", he said, "A prince of the fairy kingdom. I loved your mother, Alice but because I was a fairy and she was a human, my parents, the King and Queen of Elfland, forbade us from marrying and I was not even allowed to visit her; thus I was not there to help her when she grew sick and died of a fever, nor was I there to raise you my son but now I promise I shall make it up to you. Whatever you wish my son, I will grant".
So Sky Blue told his fairy father about Rose Pink and her father.
"There is nothing else I wish for in all the world but to marry Rose Pink but her Father will not allow it. He will only let a rich nobleman marry his daughter", said Sky Blue.
So Sky Blues fairy father, waving his magic wand, transformed Sky Blue into a blue masked prince, with a crown and suit of velvet and a golden coach pulled by six white horses and then Sky Blue went to the house of Rose Pink and knocked upon its door and when Rose Pinks father came to the door the young man said,
"I am prince of a distant land, the land of...um... Indigo, who has heard of the beauty of your noble daughter Rose Pink and would like to offer her my hand in marriage".
Looking at Sky Blues golden coach, its six white horses and his princely velvet clothes Rose Pinks father was sure that the mysterious masked prince must be extremely wealthy and so, happily, he agreed that the Prince may marry his daughter and calling Rose Pink down from her room he announced to her,
"Rose Pink, this young man is the Prince of Indigo. He says that he wishes to marry you and because I think he will provide well for you and give you the life of a princess, I have agreed that you and he should be married".
But hearing this Rose Pink was distraught and, weeping, threw herself upon her father, begging him,
"Please. Please father. Do not make me marry this man. I do not care about being a Princess. I could never love anyone except Sky Blue".
Hearing Sky Blues name mentioned however, her father flew into a terrible rage.
"What!", he shouted, "You dare mention that peasant boys name in this house. I am your father and I know what is best for you. You will do as I say and marry this prince or by heaven I'll lock you in your room and never let you out".
"Then lock me away father", said Rose Pink, "Lock me away till I am old and grey for while I cannot be with the man I love, my heart is already a prisoner and only being with him can set it free".
But this only built the flames of her fathers rage even higher and her father was about to strike poor Rose Pink when Sky Blue stopped him.
"Wait", he said, "Please. Let me speak to your daughter alone and perhaps I may convince her to marry me".
And so Rose Pinks father left the room.
But then Rose Pink said, determinedly, to the man she thought was a prince,
"You are wasting your time, your majesty. There is nothing you could say that could ever convince me to marry you for my heart belongs firmly to another, a young peasant boy named Sky Blue".
"Oh?", asked Sky Blue, smiling, "Not even if I tell you that the palace you will live in will be bigger than any palace of any queen in the world?".
"Sky Blues little ramshackle cottage is palace enough for me", she replied, "Our love would make it a palace".
"But what if I told you that you would have a retinue of millions of servants to wait upon you, to cook for you and clean for you and bow down to you and call you 'Your highness'", asked Sky Blue.
"I do not care about those things. I would happily, as a wife to Sky Blue, cook for him and clean for him for to do those things for him would be a joy if he were my husband and I do not care about being anyones 'highness'. Being Mrs Sky Blue is a title great enough for me", said Rose Pink.
"But if you married me you would have wealth greater than any queen in the world and be able to buy anything you desire; the most beautiful dresses; the most expensive jewellery and have parties and balls attended by all the most important people in the land", said Sky Blue.
"I would happily endure the life of a poor peasant wife, dress in rags and wear no jewellery at all if I could be the wife of Sky Blue for his love is all the riches I need and what need I of fancy parties and balls when I have his company. That is joyful enough", said Rose Pink.
But then, hearing this, Sky Blue was so moved by Rose Pinks devotion to him that he thought he could keep up his masquerade no longer and undoing his mask he said,
"Well then if nothing I have so far said will convince you to marry me. Perhaps seeing this will".
Then, taking off the blue mask, Sky Blue revealed his true identity and, seeing his face, her heart pounding with joy, Rose Pink rushed into his arms and they kissed.
As they were kissing, however, Rose Pinks father came back into the room and seeing Sky Blues uncovered face and that he was kissing his daughter, Rose Pinks father drew his sword.
"So I have been decieved", he bellowed in a rage at Sky Blue, "Well I told you that if you ever came near my daughter I would kill you and so I will".
And as Rose Pinks father came towards him, Sky Blue also drew his sword to defend himself but then Rose Pink rushed between them.
"No", she cried, fearing that either the man she loved or her father would be killed.
Unfortunately, in rushing between them, she got in the way of their blades and was pierced in both her heart and her back.
As she fell onto the floor, both men, dropping their swords, collapsed onto their knees in grief.
"Oh my daughter", said her father, crying, "What have I done?".
"Oh Rose Pink", said Sky Blue, "Why did I not let your father pierce my heart instead? That would have been better than this".
Just then however, in a bright burst of blue light and a cloud of blue smoke, Sky Blues Father appeared.
"Do not fear", he said to Sky Blue and Rose Pinks startled father, "For Rose Pink will not die. I can heal her wounds".
And, saying that, he waved his fairy wand over the body of Rose Pink that glowed with a blue light and instantly, her wounds and even the tears that the sword blades had made in her dress were healed and then, fully recovered, Rose Pink got back up onto her feet.
"Oh thank you", said Rose Pinks father, shaking the hand of Sky Blues fairy father, "Whatever I can do to thank you, just ask and I will do it".
"Then allow your daughter to marry my son, Sky Blue", said the fairy father, "He is truly a prince, not of Indigo but of the fairy realm and will give your daughter the wealth and life that you wish for her".
And so Rose Pinks father consented to the marriage of Sky Blue and his daughter and soon afterwards in a gigantic, lavish royal wedding they were married and lived happily ever after.
Unfortunately, Rose Pinks father did not want her to have anything to do with Sky Blue.
"The Daughter of a lord cannot love a peasant boy", he said, "You will never see Sky Blue again. Do you understand?"

Hi,
These are the old fashioned tales of yore, aren't they? They don't write them for children like this anymore, it's a pity because they tell of honest morality and give a child a sense of what to value and what to reject!
