A Girl That Asked Sheep

Down in that valley
Lived little Ms. Sally
Tending to her three sheep
Full of cheer that heap
With the rise of the sun came a man
In his hand was a bag full of gold
“Ms. give me two bags of wool and take the span.”
And little ms. Sally did as told
“Sheep, it is near Winter, but the taxman will not care. I ask, just three bags full.”
“Very well, little Ms. Sally, but no more for it is getting cool.”
And as Sally handed the three bags full, the man was merry
“Three? I asked for two. Indeed I shall return later!”
As noon became, a wealthy mistress was brought
With her a caravan shinier than the sun bold
“Ms. Give me the finest handkerchief and for you any jewel.”
And little ms. Sally did as told
“Sheep, a trader offered a share in exchange for two bags. Give and we may never work again!”
“Little Ms. Without our wool we will be popsicles, but if we so must.”
And as Sally gave the two wool knitted handkerchiefs, the ma’am was a bee
“Two? I asked for one. Take three jewels for I am in glee!”
As the sun fell, up came the landlord
With his many files in the fold
“Little ms. Sally, surely you have not forgotten rent. I ask for just two bags full.”
“No sir, no sir. I will fetch your two bags full.”
And little ms. Sally did as told
“Sheep. The landlord needs only two bags, for without we will have no land!”
“Little Ms. Sally, can’t you see? We are sheered all we can. I look like a lamb.”
Sally begged and begged, but no wool was given
And the next day the little Ms. had no land or sheep
