Succumb

Hearing the whooshing of cold air
You cradle your heart with care
You stand near the end of the road
Feeling so left alone and cold
Shadows of regrets follow you
Gently moving your trembling foot
Your body shows no signs of youth
While touching your wrinkled skin
You painfully recall your sins
You know what is about to come
You're asking what you have become
Your money, gold and credit cards
You will all simply disregard
All you have is your soul and heart
You have them from the very start
Each hurting step makes you lonely
You keep on saying "If only.."
Thinking of every bitter vow
You wish to fulfill them right now
All promises that never last
Adds up to the wounds of your past
"Will they remember who I am?
Will they grieve and forget the past?
Will they know that I truly care?
Is this just a scary nightmare?"
You're wishing to do this and that
but it's too late, time is up
Your heart will slowly make the stop
Your eyes demand the final nap
"Oh please, one last glance at my love
Oh let me smell his sweet fragrance
He must know with reassurance
That he was never a nuisance"
You see a light like no other
Right there you see the great Father
You feel your load removed for good
Arms open wide He kindly stood
You always knew there was an end
This is it, no need to pretend
You feel the joy that makes you numb
Let go, enter heaven, and succumb.
