Exterior – Dusk - Wooded area
Male and female, 9 and 10 years old respectively, hurrying along treacherous slope.
Ferone: Will you slow down a bit please?
Wona: you know we can’t. Why do I have to listen to your stupid questions everyday? (throw up his hands in the air in disgust)
Ferone: Why do you have to be so difficult at times? You know the foxes normally take ages to hunt, so there’s no risk of them returning in time to catch us.
Wona: There is always a risk, Ferone.
(beat)
What if they have to return sooner because of…….bad weather or something
Ferone: Aha! I knew you could only come up with a ‘what if’ situation.
Wona: Shoop! You talk too much
Ferone: Shoop yourself. You old monkey
Wona: (scornfully) Better than being a silly young one.
Ferone: That’s it! I don’t ever wanna steal no stupid ripe bananas with you, EVER AGAIN.
Wona: GREAT! I was always terrified of the thought that I would have tolerate your boredom until Mila is big enough to accompany on this Manly mission.
Ferone: (marching off angrily) I hope the foxes catch you
I never thought I could shoop my brother. He always had to have the final say. But not on this occasion. I know why. My harsh statement silenced him. If word got out about it, it would not be just be Mooo and Pooo who would be upset with me. It would be the entire monkey kingdom.
Ferone: I’m sorry, Wona.
Wona: Get lost
Ferone: I mean it. I really am.
Wona: GET LOST!( running away)
Ferone: Wait for me, please. I will get lost. WONA
EXT – Dusk – ....Foxes.. ..Territory....
Baby foxes are tucked and are fast asleep. Their elderly sitters are snoring or slowly dozing off.
Wona: (peering through parted shrubs) Bingo! No need to worry about the sitters.
Ferone: (sarcastically) Oh, and that is so unusual.
Wona: What's your problem?
Ferone: YOU! You are my problem.
Wona: If you dont want Mooo and Pooo to giving us a roasting, for coming all this way and go back home empty handed, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU SHOOP.
( sighs)
My Gosh! What is so difficult about that.
I allowed him to have the final say on that occasion. He had a point. That was why.
We tiptoed silently but still dangerously among the sleeping foxes. Towards the delightfully-looking bananas. I eyed them lustfully. Then Wona's eyes caught something that froze him.
Wona: (gasping, covering his mouth with his hands) OH NO!
Ferone: (smaning quietly) What now, drama monkey?
Wona: (pointing eastward) They are coming!
Ferone: (stops smaning but looks smugged) Told you so. I wonder made them come back so soon.
Wona: Now is not the time to wonder silly. It’s the time to get the hell outta here.
Ferone: Without even a hand of ripe bananas. I don’t know about you, but I do not have a
death wish.
Wona: If you prefer to be eaten by foxes then you can stay, but I’m out.
Ferone: Point taken. But please. Let us try grab something on our way out of this lair.
Wona: Fair enough
Ext - Monkeys' Slope Dusk
We stoppped running for the first time. Our sacks were getting a bit heavy. We sat down to rest for awhile. In the meantime, we checked to see who had grabbed the best delicacies.
Wona: This can't be real!
Ferone: (Mockingly) You grabbed green ones?
Wona: I think I grabbed a baby fox by mistake.
Ferone: i have ripe ones....A baby fox?
Wona: this is serious, Ferone.
Ferone: I'm sorry, Wona.
Wona: We have to take it back.
Ferone: I don't think so.
Wona: Taking home fewer ripe bananas and a useless bay fox wont go down well with KaMa and kaPa
Ferone: It's not our fault. I think they will be happy that we did not stay to be eaten.
Wona: But they will be unhappy that we did not take back the baby fox after realizing
had happened.
Ferone: I think you are wrong there. they will be happy that we came back safe and sound and with a few bananas. What do you prefer? To be roasted by KaMaa And kaPaa. Or to be eaten by foxes.
Wona: Are you suggesting that we take it home.
Ferone: We have no choice.
Wona: We have to sneak it inside.
Wona: Kapaa And Kamaa must not find out
Ferone: They dont have to. We can return the bay fox tommrow when the hunters are gone.
Wona: Definitley. We are in this together, Okay?
Ferone: Two for one.
We embraced and kissed each other on the cheeks. Then we head towards home.
For the rest of the journey home, Wona and I didn’t talk much. My thoughts were on my master plan. What that was, I wasn’t sure of yet. However, I knew it would be far better than what he could come up with. We approached the house slowly and quietly. Kamaa and Kapaa were frolicking at the front. As usual. They waved at us gleefully. We waved back but quite nervously.
Wona: Ok miss how do you suggest we get inside the hut without Kamaa and Kapaa seeing us with the baby fox?
Ferona: I have a plan…. Only I could come up with.
The idea came to me only moments earlier. Nerves crippled my breathing, but I wasn’t about to let Wona think I was a young and incapable of holding my own when it came to important missions.
Wona: Whatever. So? ….I knew it would be down to me to dream up the solution to yet another mission.
Ferone: Oh, Wona be quiet. Will you? Just allow me the time to gather my thoughts.
Wona : I thought you did that already….You better be quick. We have just a few moments.
