Where Now?

Once you escape from the hubris of modern Western thinking - which is constantly patting itself on the back for its enlightened attitudes - you quickly discover that in fact most of the oft touted triumphs of modern civilisation have brought at best exploitation and at worst catastrophe.
The real problems are rarely addressed as the divide between the rich and the rest grows ever wider and media misdirection rules the roost. Despite our misplaced, self-satisfied, sense of superiority over other societies, which we usually consider to be primitive, in practice they are usually far superior to our own in terms of quality of life and contentment.
Yet while we worry about which wine to buy or if our meals are low enough in fat many people in other parts of the world manage to be happier surviving on what little they can scavenge.
Were it not for the magical marketing of modern materialism via Hollywood style hokum people might stop, break through their conditioning and start to wonder where it all went wrong.
To wonder why instead of tackling the real problems it seems to have become increasingly popular to blame the opposite sex, or immigrants, or simply the weather. Wonder why some people have billions of dollars while others starve.
Wonder why, if scientists are so clever, the world is on the brink of disaster and the best they can offer is Carbon Offsetting which is essentially paying people who don’t smoke for not smoking on the off chance that they might start!
Could it be that we are just too greedy?
Could it be that selfishness blinds our eye?
Could it be trusting experts (who after all got us into this mess in the first place) simply because we’re too busy dreaming to think for ourselves!
