"When Did We Reach Utopia?"

- 1841 reads
WHEN DID WE REACH UTOPIA?
When did we reach Utopia and blithely pass it bye?
For what great era now long dead, should we softly sigh?
Was Utopia there for man, 'ere first the wheel was made,
Or was it when first Camels ensued the start of foreign trade?
Could it have been for Stone Age man, to languish in the shade
And thirty strong, would fall upon, Mammoth in ambuscade.
When did we reach Utopia and blithely pass it bye?
Was it before the age of man, when no one told a lie?
Or was Utopia in our Father's day? All was better then,
Ladies fair were not so rare, and pride was in all men.
Our greed and speed, to gain the more and helter-skelter on,
Have blinded us to Utopia's dream, a dream we have foregone
But some who look to future's days, say there, Utopia, before us lays,
Alas, all that I can see is greed and speed, and polluted Sunshines rays.
And through those smoke polluted rays, I fear for Earth's eternal life,
Which God donated to us all, to love, to cherish, not to end in strife.
Look o'er your shoulder, 'tis where Utopia lays, and sorrowfully sigh,
That's when we reached Utopia, in ignorance, we blithely passed it bye.
