Unlistener (20th June 2008, 9.33am)
I am exhausted, unable to comprehend the basis
of your argument; I am worn out by my attempts
to explain myself to an unlistener, twisting my words
to suit your purposes; getting caught up in your pettiness
and the expectation held that I will kowtow to you
and the bend of your will, show deference and bow out
when you play your precious last card, saved for the
moment in which you think you’ll crack me wide open;
do you think that I’m weaker than you, or any less stubborn?
How can I debate a matter of principle with somebody who
has been raised with different social rules, someone so blessed
with such a total lack of self-awareness, who has a different take
on the way that most people (i.e. everyone else I know)
conduct themselves? Have I missed something obvious?
We have been in the reversal of the situation; opposite;
and if you had, back then, applied the same rules to yourself
as you try to beat me with now, then I would let you have this…
but you didn’t. I don’t think you’ll forgive me the sin
of not agreeing with you, and not letting you win.
