A Green Burial

I make my plans to return to Gaea,
I shall nestle naked in a casket
woven from wicker which sprang from her depths.
Within her green meadow folds I shall lie
cold and still, yet with comfort
and above me they will plant a sturdy oak
whose roots shall be nourished from my remains.
While I sleep beneath its branches
life will flourish within its boughs,
birds shall nest and larvae rest.
Squirrels squabble over acorns
and lovers carve their names on its trunk.
As I am cradled in my mother's arms
I shall not squirm as the maggots gorge
for the worm is one more small part of Gaea.

What a beautiful poem, Val.

What a beautiful poem, Val. Gaea, of course, the personification of dear old Mother Earth.
"I shall nestle naked in a casket
woven from wicker which sprang from her depths.
Within her green meadow folds I shall lie..."
And these are the most beautiful of lines.
