My gaze was fixed
As rigid as the clock on the wall
Her eyes met mine
And the peace was there for all to see
The night before
I tossed and turned
Like a skewered matador
awakening all the demons
that lurked in the
shadows of my dream
Her hello reassured me
I still had a friend
And even though miles apart
Her perfume still lingers,
Are parting embrace,
On my worn weathered winter coat
The train docked in the station
A wave of excitment rushed over
The platform and transcribed
me back to my car.
I was safe and so was she
For now anyway as the wheels
Hugged the tarmac for all their worth
As John Coltrane blew his horn
I could picture the rolling countryside
Reflecting sheep and tower blocks
Surreal on her carriage window
as she slept soundly
Knowing the last stop was home
Good friends tell each other everything
well almost, thats as good as it gets
and now in my office, I still see
i had more to say, yet i know
she will call and there is hope for
yet another day.
