Grateful but dead

Once I had a vision of peace
It sat comfortable on my window ledge
Of future dreams, purring like a musing cat
Waiting for me to return
Once I had a dream of things in place
Neatly spaced like the shoes in my closet
Or suits on gold hangers in stores on
Savile row
I still have a suit but haven’t
Worn it in months And I can still hear
The Church bells calling my name
Ever Saturday morning beckoning me to service
And daring me to try it on again,
Just one more time before
The dust settles for good
I still have a cat and she loves that window sill
West facing drinking in all the sun’s best rays
And I can almost hear her purring as she waits
For me to enter the room
The vision is still just as keen as her emerald green eyes
Lucid and vibrant scanning for an opportunity
To be loved
However the future dreams have gone
You see its night time and there are just shadows
Piecing puzzles on my duvet and along my blank
Walls
Still it’s peaceful here and the dead have no memories
And sleep endlessly without fear and envisage
a grateful future
