Heart in chains

>once my heart was on my sleeve,
>free to give and take,
>so I locked it up,
>and lost my key.

One Day I found myself holding a heart,
I assumed it was my own,
I locked it back in,
surprised to find it in my hands,
only to find it yours,
you had already reached in,
unlocked my chains to steal mine,
and handed me yours, a most trusting gift,
[how do I say that I dont mind, that I'm glad?]
mabye I should have noticed [sooner],
and not been so surprised,
but I was.

and now I can't finish this,
I got lost on my way to "I'm sorry"
unsure of how to say it,
how to have her believe me,
never finding the words to convince her.
