I walk across the beach of life,
as the sun gives way to helpless clouds.
The waves of opportunity fall at my side;
I am alone on my path.
Children pass through; running ahead;
Their dreams fill the sky;
Unblemished by the disappointment
of fear or failure.
I see you walking towards me
across the sand;
Alone.
I am sure you smile at my tears
My heart aches with the hopeful thought
of holding your hand again.
It is not you.
You are here though.
In the cliffs; on the sand;
In the gentle breeze that calls me away.
I feel you near;
My dear.
Your wave came
and the tide of time took you away
I cannot cry anymore
I am alone for the very first time.
Goodbye x

I can identify with this poem so much, more than you could know. Thank you for posting it.

I know exactly what you

I know exactly what you mean, Firebird.
I lost my thirty-nine year old daughter to cancer, two years ago this New Year's Eve. She loved the sea, and there is a plaque in her memory on Southwold Pier - hence my identity with your beautiful poem. Poetry helped me through those first difficult months, and is still doing so. Keep up your writing. You are talented;-)
