I was walking the dog
when I came across him –
suitably attired
for watching birds.
Plus-four breeches,
green, baize coat –
one of those chequered
Sherlock-Holmes’ hats;
binoculars in tow.
I smile, ‘Hello’. Ask,
‘Much happening today –
with our feathered friends,
I mean?” as his eyes
busily scan the horizon
and an overhanging
canopy of trees.
He doesn’t reply.
I leave him in peace...
lost in that haven
where treasure
is a thing with wings
for those who choose
to seek it in the skies
and not on a high-street
spotting the elusive
designer label
at a knock-down price.

You have sketched a lively vignette, dear Tina and I can visualise the epitome of the English gentry, with plus-fours and a cocked shotgun only interested in birds of the feathered variety from your description.

- my favourite lines, Tina! I just wish I was like your birdwatcher instead of a potential poor student ;)

At first I called it "Pick-Up-A-Penguin" but then
Ray said Add; P-P-P.LITTLE BIRDY AYE! MistTakenMagic
