Wojczek plays a polka on a cigar-box guitar,
beats rhythm with a boot heel
on the hub-cap of a car.
He doesn't sing in Polish or any words at all,
just busks imagined croaking
of a lizard's mating call.
Wojczek owns a bottle and the clothes on his back,
he ain't a-beggin'
- 'cause there's nothin' in the hat.
He hasn't had a shave and he don't smell o' soap,
you ask him what he's singin
and he says a song called 'Hope'.
