Lugubrious Cabbage
There are fine cabbages in the garden
every day they get larger
darker, greener
Alice must have spilled some potion
or they are triffid really and just pretending
round heads
advancing on the house after dark
I am running out of recipes
for cabbage
stir frys of every type and blend
sauteed, soups
stuffed with rice and mince
pine nuts as if they were vine leaves
fried crisp for Chinese
coleslaw with burgers
or breaded chicken
coleslaw with salads galore
coleslaw
I haven't done enough coleslaw
They reproach me like a Trollope parson
command me
on your knees
and then martyr your hands in cold water

...Camilla, I have the same problem with Bolshie beetroots;-)
Seriously though, brilliant poem, and one which I can surely identify with.
