Still With Me

I said my farewell
in the wood on the hill.
You were silent, eyes closed
when I walked away
forever as I thought.
How is it then that I see you
wherever I go?
On city streets among the crowds
I see you.
In the empty lane I turn
and you are there, silent and staring.
I try to ignore you
for I said my farewell
in the wood on the hill.
You were silent when I left you
and still you do not speak.
You watch and wait
For what?
We have nothing to say to each other
you and I.
And now you are here in the night
at the foot of my bed.
And the stone I laid on your chest
in the secret grave
in the wood on the hill
you carry still.
