My Heart's Abode

When colours are but shades of grey,
beneath a mass of thunderous cloud.
When night seems much the same as day
and pleasures wrapped in morbid shroud.
When even beauty seems as cloaked,
against the ugly rains of woe.
When all escape routes appear choked
and there is nowhere left to go…
When others ‘tut’ as public tears,
would seem to sap their empathy.
I know; I understand their fears,
though seeking not their sympathy.
But when the tide has left the shore
and deep despondency is King.
When I feel, I can take no more,
Tis then, that fate thinks you, to bring.
You grab my face, your lips seek mine
and rainbow coloured love explodes.
Your presence doth my soul entwine…
and gives a lonely heart abode.
