“Pleased to meet you,” Jennifer Jane said in a rather shaky voice, she was beginning to feel quite worried now. “How can I help you?”
“I’ve heard that he was expelled because of you telling tales to the witches. It’s very awkward for me to visit his mother in her new home, but I thought it was only fair to hear your side of the story before I decide what to do with you!”
Jennifer Jane took a deep breath and told how Eroin had played all sorts of tricks on her and ended up making everyone in the class grow ears like a donkey.”
“Including the teacher?” asked the elf, with a rather childish giggle.
Jennifer Jane nodded vigorously.
“Can’t say I blame them,” he replied, much to her relief. “It sounds to me that he got no more than he deserved. Right then, thanks for telling me.”
He turned and began to walk back towards the forest.
“Excuse me,” shouted Jennifer Jane, “I’m not in my world, would you mind sending me back please?”
“Sorry, very forgetful of me.” The elf didn’t seem to make any gestures like a witch would have done, but he slowly faded from view as her world returned to normal.
All the buildings looked as solid as ever, but she made sure that the Witches’ Home was in sight, before going on towards the village. After all the excitement she felt it would be a relief to stretch her legs and it wasn’t too far to walk, so she set off over the bridge. Now she’d have another tale to tell when she met her friends and family.
She had only gone about half way across when there was a roar from under her feet.
“WHO DARES CROSS THE BRIDGE OF LURGIN THE TROLL?”
