The Unicorn and The Pegasus

The unicorn had been very jealous of her flying friend, the Pegasus; a winged white stallion that could swoop and soar and loop the loop through the air.
“I wish that I had wings upon my back and could fly up to the wide, blue sky like that”, the unicorn always thought, whenever she saw the Pegasus flying.
Then, one day, a balloon salesman came to the magic meadow where the Pegasus and the unicorn lived and he had a big bunch of brightly coloured, helium filled balloons on strings.
Seeing all the balloons gave the Unicorn a wonderful idea and, giving the balloon seller one of her golden horse shoes, the unicorn bought the biggest one that the balloon seller had and she tied the string at the end of it round the middle of her body.
Then, all of a sudden, the unicorn saw her hooves start to rise off of the ground and before long the unicorn was floating high in the air, suspended from the large, lighter than air balloon.
“Look! Look!”, called the unicorn to the Pegasus who was hovering nearby, “I’m flying! I’m flying!”.
But the Pegasus just shook his head and tutted, “If unicorns were meant to fly then Mother Nature would have given them wings like mine”, he said.
This only irritated the unicorn who refused to listen and instead turned up her nose haughtily.
But, just then, the unicorn heard a loud popping sound from above her head, “Oh dear!”, she said, looking up, “My horn has burst the balloon!”.
Then, suddenly, the unicorn started to fall very fast towards the ground. “Oh no!”, she cried in panic, “Help! Help! I’m falling!”.
Fortunately, the Pegasus saw the falling unicorn and swooped down to help his friend, catching the unicorn between his hooves and flying it safely to the ground.
“I told you”, said the Pegasus, “Unicorns just aren’t meant to fly”.
But then the Pegasus felt a sudden, terrible sharp pain in his left wing and, looking back, he saw that he had broken it.
“Oh no!”, he said sadly, “What will I do now? I can’t fly with a broken wing”.
“Don’t worry”, said the Unicorn, “I can fix your wing”.
And then the unicorn touched the tip of its golden horn against the wing of the Pegasus and the horn started to glow all kinds of bright colours as a magical healing power poured out of it, healing the bones within the wing until all the pain was gone and the pegasus could use it to fly again.
“Oh Unicorn!”, said the Pegasus smiling, “I don’t know why you want to fly so badly because your horn is much more special than my wings”.
That made the unicorn feel so proud of her horn and after that she wasn’t jealous of the Pegasus anymore.
