staring at the sun on a lonely night
fifty miles between us dissolve into a quiet harmony
as here, i realize that our poetry
is written on the same page
as mothers
and fathers before us,
as couples and nature
and all those others who have discovered
the universe's promise.
clutched close to the eternal heart,
we dont need birdsong
in this perfect silence.
