The Diary Of Albert E.

Took the test today and it was even harder than I had expected.
I always have trouble remembering my catechism and pretending to believe the dogma.
I was ready for the one that caused Galli so much trouble...
“The Earth goes around the Sun for God is light and lives there
But the sun goes around the Earth for me because I live here.”
“We are the gods now, Albe, and so the Earth goes around the sun even though we don’t live there!”
I felt like pointing out that I saw the sun going through the sky every day when it wasn’t too cloudy but I knew it would only cause trouble.
I struggled on with the rest of the sacred laws until I made a slip repeating the spell of Universal Gravitation.
“The product of mass one and two is then divided by r power 2 then G force… err.”
“You’ve never liked Angel Isaac’s spell for gravity have you Albe?”
“Well, it doesn’t seem to fit the facts sir. He based his spell on the work of Saint Kepler who had never looked outside our solar system and simply assumed that if it worked here it would work everywhere.”
“So are you suggesting it will not?”
“Well sir, all the planets have such little mass compared to the Sun that they can be seen to be within its circle.”
“Within its circle?”
“Oops sorry sir, I forget sometimes that my spells don’t work the same as Angel Isaac’s…
I believe that the mass of an object warps space and makes a kind of bubble around itself which accelerates any other mass toward its centre. That‘s why I believe that cubic calculations will never be quite correct - since it involves spherical geometry.”
“So you think that even around a square world the bubble would be spherical?”
“If you throw a square stone into a pond do you get square ripples sir?”
“How does this spell work then Albe?”
“Well sir, as I see it, all mass contains energy such as that the Angel Isaac called the potential energy of gravitation - potential energy of position. I believe that this energy can also be seen as mass and is related as such by the connection Mass = Energy dived by K which is a constant related to the square of the speed of light through a vacuum.”
“Go on.”
“Well sir, I think that this energy is released as the force of acceleration allowing the object to fall…
and so the mass of the object is reduced but the velocity is increased.
However, since in space objects are never at rest if an object does start to fall toward another the smaller tends to orbit the larger in the direction it was going before it began to fall.
Because energy cannot be created or destroyed if the object cannot pass its energy on then it will most probably find a new more elliptical orbit by exchanging some of its velocity for mass.”
“You realise that even if this were true you would not be allowed to preach it?”
“Yes sir.”
“The great One Himself has said that even if there were a God he would probably be unable to change the Laws. Do you understand that?”
“Does he mean because the Laws are immutable or because no change to the Laws would be allowed, Sir?”
“Does it really matter Albert E?
All organisations eventually form an entrenched bureaucracy whose survival becomes more important than anything else - especially truth.
If you want to be an altar boy you must remember that!”
“Yes sir”
“If, at sometime in the future, you do wish to preach some of your ideas make sure that it seems that they don’t contradict anything that the Angel Isaac said… and do it slowly, in stages.
Okay?”
“Yes sir, thank you sir”.
"Oh, and Albe...
your approach to the question of what orbits what shows good sense!
Had Galileo practised similar tact if would have saved him an awful lot of trouble.
If you do intend to preach new ideas you should continue using the same approach - maybe you could call it... Relativity."

Waves.
As a child Albert would spend as much time as he could in the sea.
He learned how to spin and perfected a technique which synchronised his breathing so that his back was to each incoming wave and consequently the frequency of the waves naturally set his spin speed.
Albert discovered an unexpected bonus to his spinning in that he found that he could use the waves to power his spin and so spend hours effortlessly turning with the tide.
He quickly found that he could spin faster by doing several spins between waves but that to change from one ‘frequency’ to another required a lot more effort until the new frequency was synchronised.
On days when the sea was very ‘choppy’ he found it was difficult to spin at all and he was forced to spin much faster to ’skim’ over the irregular waves requiring a lot of effort and extra care with his breathing… fortunately such days were rare.
While ha was ‘spinning’ Albert used to muse on the nature of the Universe and how many other things might spin in relation to the frequencies around them.
Maybe the molecules in a glass that was shattered by a certain frequency pitch were simply spinning too energetically to maintain their formation.
Maybe some spinners could only breathe every other spin because they wobbled.

I wondered why I could balance my stationary push bike much more easily if I put on the brakes and pushed down on the pedals.
It seemed to me that somehow the pressure on the pedals expressed itself in a potential direction for the bike (forward) that reduced the tendency for the bike to move in other directions (fall over).
I mentioned this to an angel and the angel explained :-
“Well Albert - Imagine that you have a row of huts with open doors and a gusty wind springs up.
The doors will probably start to make a lot of noise as they bang to, and then open again, and bang to…
At first thought it might appear that this is caused by the wind blowing the doors shut and the doors rebounding from their frames. No!
The cause has a far deeper root than that and is related to why planes can fly.
It is a property of ‘flow’ and can be summed up by the generality that anything flowing in a particular direction will exert maximum pressure in the direction of flow and minimum in the opposite direction.
However it will also exert reduced pressure to the sides which will tend to be at a minimum at right angles to the flow.
The wind gusts, as it blows past the huts and so the pressure on the hut door is reduced, essentially sucking the door open, as the gust reduces in intensity the pressure on the door rises and slams the door shut.
If the gusts are regular then the doors give an approximate vector as they indicate the air pressure at any point down the row.
As with wind so with currents, as with doors so with moments... ”
What are planes? I asked.

“Hello Albert E what’s the kitchen made for tea?”
“Hello Legion, how many are you today?”
“Doesn’t really matter, there’s only one of us eating.
What’s that you’re doing?”
“I’m wondering why the Angel Isaac used such a messy way to describe the Universe and looking for a better.”
“Messy?”
“Well, he didn’t use the obvious three dimensions of Position, Amount and Duration
I mean it is easier for the box monkeys to work in cubes but the Universe doesn’t!
Essentially, if you’re NOT actually stuck on a ball then most of the time only the distance between things is important.”
“Well yes, but you do need to be able to precisely label the positions of things in space so that you can see how they interact and Cartesian co-ordinates are the easiest for the box monkeys.
The goes same for Time, you need to have a co-ordinate system that allows the box monkeys a future and a past so that they can have a sense of progression…”
“I know” I interrupted “but they don’t seem to see that their dimensions are simply a way of measuring and they have somehow come to believe that because they locate things by using a box system that the world is made up of boxes.
Position is relative not absolute and so the co-ordinates should be relative too.
I mean look how clumsy their system is at explaining spin it’s no wonder they struggle with orbits. Probably explains why they don’t realise the true properties of spinning!”
“You’re right in that it would be much simpler if they did see spin as simply rotation and not a journey through dimensions but living on a planet they are still confined by the legacy thinking of creatures who thought that all things fall down.”

If you can curve and drag space-time then maybe it really is a sea and not just a growing bag...
A Sea of Existence, of Time. We'll call it SET.
Maybe SET was already there, was ALWAYS there, and the Universe grows in SET rather than SET growing WITH the Universe.
I mean maybe the Universe is like a ripple spreading through SET, a pool of existence, which reflects back when it reaches the edge...
and so keeps repeating eternally.
Due to the huge difference in size between us and the Earth it appears almost flat to us - yet it is still hard to believe that people used to fear they might fall off the edge :O)
Similarly the Universe will appear almost cubic to suns etc. because of this propery of spheres that the bigger they are in relation to a smaller sphere then the less they appear to curve.
Since the Universe is relatively 'infinite' then it appears relatively cubic to matter and the 'tension' between the two tends to form oval or spherical 'bubbles' in SET - the more matterial the more spherical.
Next time you’re drinking your beer watch the bubbles rising to the top and realise that the bigger they are the more efficiently they contain the gas which is under pressured from the liquid.
Of course there is always the possibility that I have it the wrong way around and that matter 'prefers' cubic but is 'persuaded' to the spherical by the SET.
Either way, since the effect will probably be greatest nearest the centre of the Universe then perhaps this would cause Laws to appear to vary as you get further out.

Orbiting For Bikers. A Light-hearted Look At Science Without Equations.
Imagine you are a motorcyclist speeding around inside a suitably large plastic bubble.
Is there any path you can take in which you can maintain a constant speed and yet appear to defy gravity without leaning?
Well, when you are circling horizontally - as on the Wall Of Death - I’m sure that would be true but I can’t be certain there are no other paths. Are there?
However, if this bubble was in some way moved into space (somewhere with a similar value for the acceleration of gravity) and you could suddenly ignore friction would the bike fall?
Well, of course it would because without air you'd die and fall off the bike.
But I just wanted to make the point that as long as the bike continued to coast at the same speed it couldn’t fall without some change.
If you steered it to go down it would, but then it would simply lead to a different ‘orbit’ which would inevitably lead you back up again (but your speed would no longer be constant).
In other words when it reached the bottom there’s nowhere else for it to go but back up, until it reaches the top and then nowhere else to go but back down again.
The only way to safely go down and stay down would be to gently apply the brakes.
This should allow you to slowly spiral down the bubble and stop at the bottom.
My point is that this is a poor but useful analogy of orbits.
The orbiting speed of any body in space is unrelated to its mass and simply defined by the distance to its 'sun'. If that body has a constant speed then it describes a circular orbit otherwise it will be elliptical.
So, where does mass come in? Well, it only really matters if it is large enough to affect the orbits of other planets. In other words when the bike is heavy enough to bend the plastic bubble.
So essentially you can calculate the mass of a body by how much it deforms space.
Since none of the planets, even Jupiter, is very massive compared to the sun then the sun’s bubble isn’t greatly affected and all the planets do the wall of death around the ecliptic :O)
NB Pluto doesn't run with the rest which is probably why it's been thrown out of the league of planets ;o)
Now the problem with this analogy is that like Newton’s idea of gravity it depends on a force to keep the orbiting body from flying off.
Newton used the analogy of a piece of GRAVITATIONAL string to stop it flying apart and this analogy uses a bubble.
One pulls from the centre the other pushes from the periphery.
So how can we have a gravitational bubble?
Well there is no obvious bubble than stops an orbiting body from flying off into space any more than there is an obvious string and yet, in a way, there is… Inertia.
Inertia is defined as - the tendency of a body to preserve its state of uniform motion (a body at rest still has a uniform motion but it is unchanging in relation to that with which it is at rest).
So our bubble is an inertial bubble which keeps the body in a constant orbit so long as there are no changes - since as long as the body goes neither up nor down then the mass does not change then no acceleration is evident.
Newtonian physics calls for an acceleration since it believes that the object is constantly changing direction - however we simply see it as following a Relatively straight line which happens to be inside a spinning sphere :O)
I think I ought to add that on Earth extra forces like friction act like a brake and so here the motorbike accelerator must always be used to compensate.
One you realise that this is not true in space you can see that essentially everything continues doing what its doing without the need for ficticous forces.
NB. Obviously the bike in the bubble represents the objects moment of momentum and as long as it is horizontal then the bubble will not fall.
Fortunately the relationship between the bike's bubble and its sun (the Earth) has been simplified because one is inside the other.
The same is true for the planets and Sol.
