In sleep deep as oceans with eyes made of lead,
I saw broken faces their eyes were all dead,
their mute frozen agony touched something deep inside, does this have to be the cost to keep the men alive?
I saw creatures sit at tables play games with other lives, they let the weaker fall to slow the selfless down, their ambition overcomes petty reason or contempt, this is their time of "I" and all others are spare.
I searched around for empathy but It wasn't to be found, there was a moment I thought it was near but near no longer counts. Warnings came to leave my path for there was nothing to be gained, I walked on blind and confident certain of A lie.
I called out to my lover she now lived her other life, I called out to my friends my friends faded from my sight. In dreams I'm told that lessons form,
my lesson here is despair for there is no greater safeguard to oneself than to expect nothing from anyone else.
