When a man becomes a monkey
P. K. Routray
Edited by P Gaan
“Monkey is the ancestral father of man”, it is said
With lost tail, fallen hair and cosmetic changes, from monkey man was made.
Once a man dreamt that he had gone to his forefather’s den,
A relief from ravages of human life, it must have been a boon for him not a bane.
To Jump happily from one branch to another and from one tree to other he could dare,
With no worry for family and no worry for the world, he danced openly with any partner he could share.
With two words to speak and one tune to sing, to express his emotion he had no hesitation to snarl.
The feeling was better than the human beings’ better quarrel.
No difference in caste, neither in creed, nor in color, they all look the same
No pending grudge to avenge, no jealousy to take revenge he was happy having none to blame.
Unlike man, monkey knows only one art of love, hence no tension on the emotional plain,
With only two spoken words they establish their communication and do not complain.
On assuming the form of the monkey his enemies’ clothing he tore,
Snarling at them with frowning face and showing pointed teeth and sharp nails he bore.
Soon, as one among monkeys, he forgot his revenges,
As a man he had borne these grudge through ages.
He forgot his worry for food and shelter,
Neither for attire nor for family, he had to bother.
Being a monkey the man was relieved of tensions,
His physical strength and health were advantageous additions.
He did not have to eat frozen, stale and contaminated food
Rather he ate fresh fruits from trees, whatever choose he could,
No monkey has ever visited a doctor or a pleader,
He hardly has diseases or legal issues like a man to probe further
This man wanted to teach the monkeys as their superior and a teacher
But in all fronts of life in fact, he found himself a failure and a learner.
Then the man preferred to forget his human form,
He felt far happy and contented with monkey’s freedom
Man with all his knowledge in monkey’s group can hardly pull on,
Because of his complexities and falsehood man will be a failure and left alone
Whether the evolution of man from monkey is the improved version?
From man’s nature and behavior the evolution seems degradation.
Peace and bliss are ultimate end of man’s life
But they elude the man even in spite of his intelligent strife
Man’s intelligent senses are wild and they desire more and more,
Monkey has limited requirements, hence he enjoys life better..
He did not like to have man’s memory and intellect,
Also did not want to have man’s greed and complex talent.
The man enjoyed in dream his life of monkey.
When awoke, felt miserable for his life of a donkey.
