These Dreams

These dreams are not your muse
- for they spring from sleep -
at best they are just private views
and secrets we cannot keep.
For they spring from sleep,
where all colours but the blues
and secrets we cannot keep
offer vague and transient clues.
Where all colours but the blues,
by causing life to slowly seep,
offer vague and transient clues
to where the fallen angels weep.
By causing life to slowly seep
through soles of diamond-studded shoes,
to where the fallen angels weep,
while imps cavort in threes and twos.
Through soles of diamond-studded shoes
we feel the strangling tares creep:
as in the parables of Jews,
we buy a birthright truly cheap.
We feel the strangling tares creep -
at best they are just private views -
we buy a birthright truly cheap -
these dreams are not your muse.
