Stuck On You

They were survivors, riding the waves of life,
one a boy, the other a girl – swathed in love,
no sadness in those big sparkling eyes...
such strong bonds could never be broken,
so easy for them to joyfully smile when in
the face of adversity, for what would they
know of this so called word 'normality'...

aesthetically beautiful in there own way inside,
and yet so like chalk and cheese – as they've
strived to find their special gifts, a hard enough
task in itself, a burden you would think – to find
a lover, yet from the moment they met – they fell
completely in love, making plans to get married,
till disaster struck – destiny took him away, he
got killed – struck down by a drunken driver...

so now with each others support, taking care of
business – they've fooled those doctors, who told
them they'd never live past thirty – smiling they prepare to celebrate fifty years,contemplating how much they've achieved and how much is to come.

Hi Jen, I had to read this three times, not because I wasn't taking it in, but because I chose to - I was amazed at the depth of your piece, your insight and sensitivity, and also (hope I'm not going OTT) your cleverness at story writing, you even work in a twist in this microcosm of a tale. I don't know what else I'm going to find to say about your work in future, I'm running out of superlatives, but I'm sure you'll continue to inspire me to find something new. Very well done! sue

Thankyou for reading Tina, this is a piece of writing about George and Lori Schappell, who are the oldest conjoined twins in the world. They are celebrating their 50th birthday in London. I admired them so much for their determination, being joined at the head and the fact that Lori is 5ft 1" and George is 4ft 4". It certainly moved me enough to write this piece. Hi sue, you have been really kind, you really lift my spirits, it means a lot to me, because I'm not really a writer as such, but I just write what comes into my head, from things I see or remember, or music that inspires me. This piece I wrote, from reading in Tuesday's Sun paper, about these special 50 year old twins, who manage to live two seperate lives and yet be joined. The other amazing thing was, that Lori was going to get married, but her partner got killed by a drunk driver, I don't know how they do it, but I think it puts life in perspective, when I read things like this. Anyway again, thankyou so much for the comment and telling me your feelings on it. Jenny.

Just wanted to say, Jen, that you are a writer, I don't think there's much doubt about that. And It doesn't matter where your ideas come from - newspaper snippets, books, observations - thay all set the imagination going and your writing skills bring it alive on the page. It's the fusing of fact and fiction that's the key, and to do it like you do, seamlessly and naturally, well, to be honest, I'm quite envious. sue

Hi Jenny :) again lol. I think its really lovely how simply yet perfectly told, this brilliant encouraging story so well done. I also agree with Sue there should never ever be any doubt in your mind or others that your a 'writer' and one of the best writers I have come across for years. And There are lots on here that should be published up against the likes of Stephen king e.t.c and you are defiantly one of them!!!! Keep Writing Keep Smiling :)

new skinner_jennifer Hi! Course your good writer the way you can explain things so well. So many on here are great writers, and potential. Look how advanced now, as a writer uou have become. I guessed maybe it is the wonderful twins. That were joined. All the things achieved to do. Well the Frog one I have just tried, is true1 from the paper. "Virgin" been cutting out, so now taken out "Unbelievable" and (IP) left it, too late "Virgin back on now, left as, "AM I GREEN." The last day Thursday, don't know if on my head or feet Say's I can't get on with anyone, so wrong as usual. Someone's plants, all cut on pavement.They Didn't do. four installation vans in the road? with ladders on,maybe cos Virgin and area been cut off! Keep writing interesting stories. Love them all. keep smiling.Been for walk, to late for town Have good week-end. Going to free Jazz do. julie xx

This is such an interesting story, which you tell beautifully. I would ech the others who think you ARE a writer. And what is great, that from what i've read so far, your work is also thought-provoking. Always a good thing in my opinion.

Hello Overthetop1, It's very kind of you to leave such a kind message. I think it takes a lot of courage for two people such as the conjoined twins I was writing about, to do what they do and to have achieved such a lot in their lives. I have to say that I do enjoy writing so much and get a real buzz, when I've finished a piece of writing. But then I suppose all people that write on ABC Tales, can understand what I mean by a buzz. I really enjoyed this too - I love learning about other people's lives and perceptions, and this was such a good story. It has a lot of hope despite some of the hurdles they had to get past. and it reminds me of something I wrote once. I like it, and your other writing quite a bit.

Hello again, Jenny, The story of these twins is remarkable and one does have to think how it is possible that they are able to overcome such difficulties. It always amazes and humbles me, the courage shown by some people. 'Aesthetically beautiful in their own way inside' Is a very illuminating remark which reveals a lot about you, Jenny,and you write beautifully too. I must try to read more of your work but In trying to get round to as many as I can I am sometimes spread a bit thin. Excellent piece! Moya
