Wish bone for change

You travel for two hours because you feel that you should-
It is not only the ticket you pay for but the price of morality.
And your bones rattle on the train-
shake with the confusion that life is meandering away;
your fingertips grip the handles
but you are terrified that they aren’t ready to let go.
Jag är bara promenader hopp
drömmer om en annan framtid
I am just walking hope,
Dreaming of another future.
And broken bottles lay wasted against ash-
You tell yourself that no amount of alcohol will blur this image.
Because this man could be you;
and you stand like the heart monitor is a mirror
or the red scribbles a time-line mapping your up’s and downs.
Jag är bara promenader hopp
drömmer om en annan framtid
I am just walking hope,
Dreaming of another future.
Until a voice box breaks the silence-
but you can’t prepare yourself for the amount of wires;
funnelling oxygen into his skin.
He sounds out; “it won’t be long now.”
And you can’t say anything because words are useless-
pour him water like a liquid prayer between your fingertips
your shaky hands trying to erode time.
