Chunky and The Human Dustbin

A room full of posters
That old black and white TV
Beach towels and ping pong
A cassette player you tarted up for me
Rock pools, sunburn
That time we nearly drowned at sea
Sugar Puff stickers on your light switch
And early midnight feasts for me
Those badges we had
Of Soda Stream and Tufty
Me flying over the handlebars
On the fat-tyred, burnt-orange Budgie
CRACK! when the hairbrush hit the windscreen
Of Mum’s battered old black Mini
Our lovely human-cat now buried
Where the climbing frame used to be
Shitty pubs on New Year’s Eve
And our fear on the roof, by the chimney
Your drunken, raging outburst
When you pointed, demanded an apology
Not only for yourself, your house
But also one for me
Drinking wine up the allotment
All ills cured by sausage sarnies
A thousand-and-one film quotes
And constantly abusing the TV
All these tiny silly things
Which don’t mean anything to anybody
Except for you and me.
