Get Lost

I got lost today,
Following the treaden path.
The footprints
pressed into the earth
and the smell of a day’s birth.
The wind was a roar and
it rushed through my ears.
Pressed to a seashell,
like the ocean waves.
Behind my eyes, circuits of light
race around tracks like
tiny mice in a maze.
In my veins, my blood
races to my heart, like iron filings,
to a powerful magnet.
I got lost following you,
the marching of time
like soldiers in rank and file.
A ghost of a scent and a memory
of a voice, trapped between ears
and locked in a vacant mind.
With my ears pressed to a seashell,
Pressed to your chest, I hear the gentle pound
Of ocean waves against stone and sand
And of a beautiful heart
against a porcelain cage.
We get lost tomorrow,
Time is a spider and I am
caught in a cycle, with two wheels
and one flat tire, and many miles
left to travel.
