For the Birds (IP)

Hey buddy, can you sparrow a dime? Vulture, I thought and went on. Guess he thought he was being funny, a dime eh? That beggar should go back to his own country, no dimes here. Used to wren-ch my heart out, seeing these guys begging. Now I am a tough old crow, I pass em up quick like and go on. Some of these guys make a fortune doing that. Not real street people just scam artists. You have to have eyes like an eagle to spot them though, gotta hand it to them, they sure play the part well. Bloody Florence Nightingale wouldn’t give them the time of day. That one outside Goldfinch, the jewellers, is especially crafty. He has his dog with him. Thing is, the dog is fat. He doesn’t look like he misses a meal for sure. Both of them could use some exercise instead of sitting there begging. You’d have to be a bird brain to fall for that.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’d not harm a barn owl but I do get tired of being accosted on every corner by someone wanting something from me. I am usually pretty broke myself, I struggle to make ends meet and the money usually runs out before the month and it gets tough. Give me thrush if I am lying but I often have to go robin my piggy bank to get enough change to have a pack of crisps for lunch. I guess these days we’re all watching our pennies like hawks. This recession thing is hard to swallow. So, instead of telling them to go fly a kite, or being a horrible old bat, I can at least smile and say, sorry not today.
