"Wake up! Are you alright?" Someone yelled. She slowly got up. "Umm, where-" she started off. She looked around. Around her was a thick forest with the deepest shade of green on every single leaf. It must have been day, because light was reflecting off of some branches.
"Are you alright? You weren't moving! I was seriously woried! But- who are you? I dont think that I have seen your face around here before..." The girl asked
"My name is Blaise and... I'm not from here. At least I don't think." She replied.
"You don't think? Well, ok. I'm Courtney! Pleasure to meet you. However, here is not the place to talk. Let's come to my house, and then we ca-" she was then cut off.
Then, a pair of boys with the palest of pale skin crashed into Courtney, full-speed. Something like a rock flew off of Courtney.
"Excuuuuuse us!" the tallest one said.
"Why did you shove me you... Umm... Vexing... Peanut brains!" Courtney said with a tinge of fury.
"This is yours, isn't it?" The short but (shhh!) fat one said, pointing at the rock that flew off of courtney.
"Aaaack! Thats-"
"We'll be taking it, thank you very much!"
And the pale kids ran off into a distant cave, taking Courteny's odd rock with them. They glanced at eachother. A couple of tears began to well up in Courtney's eyes(she noticed that they sometimes changed color, from brown to blue to green.
"Will you help me get it back? She asks nevously. Blaise thought for a moment and nodded.
"Ok, good!" Courtney replies. She pulled off a satchel off her shoulder and pulled out a brown bow and black quiver filled with forest green arrows. She slung the quiver over her shoulder and reached in the bag for something else. She gives her a gold knife that looked about 8 inches long with a ivory handle.
"This metal is called Sun's gold. Its one of the few substances that can harm monsters." Courney says. She also pulls out two necklaces that portraid a serpent eating its tail. Giving one to Blaise, she put hers on.
"And this," Courtney started
"Is called an Ouroboros charm. It prevents serious harm. It sometimes can heal minor injuries like scrapes. However, it has to 'taste' your blood first, so it knows that its healing you, it also has a 3-mile range, and doesn't work on a new moon. Thats all you need to know, and i've never used these before, so..." Courtney held out her hand.
"Are you sure..." Blaise asked.
Courtney nodded. Blaise took Courtney's knife and lightly jabbed Cortney. Courtney winced.
"I'm ok," Courteny said seconds afterward. After that, Courtney put her hand over the Ouroboros charm and lifted out one of the spikes, and she watched as several drops of blood poured into the charm. Instantly, The eyes of the Ouroboros turned blood red.
Then she put the spike back on. My turn, Blaise thought. She gently poked her hand and watched in amazement as golden blood poured out. Courtney was staring. She already knew what courtney was going to say. We'll discuss this later, said Courtney's expression. She lifted the spike off the Ouroboros charm and golden blood poured in. The eyes on the charm turned gold. Then, she put the spike back on.
"We're all set." Courtney said.
Then, the duo walked into the cave, prepared for any task that lay ahead of them.
Once they walked inside, Blaise immediately noticed a temperature change. It was around 100° outside and around 87° inside. Torches lined the cave walls every here and there. The deeper they went, the colder it got. Once the temperature reached below 70°, they began to hear noises, as if it wasn't just them walking in the cave. She looked behind her. Shadows started to materialize behind her. They prepared to pounce on Courtney even before they were done materializing.
"Courtney! Look out!" And, with a quick flick of her arm, sent the blade through the not-quite-yet-materialized monsters, Incintegrating every last bit of them, until nothing remained.
"Ok, Blaise, what happened?" Courtney asked. So, Blaise explained.
"Ok, this is not good. It's defeat might have alerted the rest of the pack, which means... Prepare to see much more of those at anytime." And, on that happy note, they swiftly moved through the cave until they reached a underground lake. There was a tiny peninsula leading out, and on the end, stood the pale-skinned boys. Courtneys eyes narrowed(even after an hour, she still couldn't decide what color Courtney's eyes were).
Both boys turned around. The taller one smiled, and said:
"I didn't expect you to come here to get your precious... Slab. Anyway, we decided to sell it at the WWM, and because of that, we have all the more reason not to give it back." He said condescendingly. Rage clearly began to swell up within Courtney.
"Fine. In that case, we'll just have to come and get it!" Even Blaise was shocked by what Courtney said. The two boys fell silent. The tall one smiled again.
"In that case, we would like to invite you to a little... Party." He snapped his fingers and, 4 on her right and 4 on her left, the shadow wolves ran up from behind.
"It's an ambush!" Courtney exclaimed.
Courtney backed up until her back touched Blaise's.
"We'll take out the Vargs, but let's just knock out the boys." said Courtney.
Blaise broke out into run and incintegrated 4 Vargs. Courtney then volleyed 4 perfectly-aimed arrows at the 4 remaing Vargs, incintigrating them. Courtney then took a blue orb out of her satchel and threw it at the boys. The instant it hit the floor, the boys fell asleep.
"Well, that was quick!" Blaise said. She walked up and pulled the slab out of the short boy's grasp.
"Eww, lets clean it!" Courtney said as she smashed another orb on the floor. After a quick burst of water, the slab was as good as new.
"Alright, let's go to my house!" Courtney gave her a seed and told her to eat it.
"Three... Two... One!" and they popped the seeds into their mouths. Everything started to spin and darken until all she saw was total darkness.
A warm, fuzzy feeling prevaded Blaise's body. Color flooded her vision and she was awake. She noticed that she was wearing some kind of blue leggings and a pure, white shirt. She also realized that she was sitting on a stelagmetite with a seat carved into it and a cushion on it. In front of her was an open window, exept without the glass. She was in a cave. To her right were stairs leading up, and then covered by a bush. There were two hallways to her left. She got up and walked into the first one. There were two bunkbeds. Each had a matress. One bunkbed had neon green sheets. The other had purple. The one that had purple had some things on the top, which must be where Courtney slept. Then there were white blankets neatly folded upon each bed. The carpet floor was really soft, and she figured that the carpet was only in this room. There were four dressers, one on each side of each bed. Then there was another hallway. She went through the hallway and found 3 bathrooms: one in front of her, one to the left, and one to the right. They each had doors. She walked into the one in front of her. There was a shower, complete with shampoo and body wash, a toilet, a sink with a mirror, and a polished tile floor. She walked up to the mirror and gazed at her reflection. She hadn't really paid attention to her appearance since she woke up in the forest. She saw a face with prominent cheekbones, Blue eyes, and black hair that fell to just below her ears.
"Hey, Blaise!" a voice called. She walked out of the bathroom and out of the bedroom. She saw Courtney with her shoulder-legnth brown hair and ever-changing eyes wearing similar blue leggings and a purple shirt.
"Hey Blaise, I made something to eat! And I'm also going to show you something." She gestured to two bowls of rice and a odd kind of yellow berries that tasted like sugar.
" I have something to tell you. See this berry?" she held up one of the yellow berries.
"These are called sugarberries. They look almost exactly like the golden doom berries. You can tell the difference because sugarberries have three seeds on the top in the shape of a triangle. Golden doom berries don't have the triangle seeds. If you eat one, you only have a third of a second to curse your carelesness. But for now... Let's dig in!"
Blaise was stuffed. The rice was delicious, but not quite as delicious as the sugarberries.
"So... Do you know your last name?" Courtney asked
"No."
"Do you know how old you are?"
"No."
"Do you know where you live?"
"No."
Courtney paused and asked:
"Do you have amnesia?"
"Yes!"
"Well... Why didn't you tell me this earlier?!"
"You wouldn't let me."
"True." Courtney admitted.
"Well, I have to show you something..."
Courtney pulled out a slab of stone that had an odd pattern on it. It's really hard to describe, but it looked like a sun with a circle around it. There were 4 little swirls coming out on the right, left, the top, and the bottom. Then there were little spikes of light coming out between each swirl. This cave was in a cliff, pointing to the west. The natural window let that sunlight in, making it look eerie. This slab... Just being near it makes me feel light and happy, she thought.
"I call it my secret slab. I named it that because I never told anyone that I possess this. Other than you, that is." Courtney said. Blaise knew that Courtney liked her a lot, and she wasn't afraid to show it. She knew that someday, Courtney would embarrass her in public. But that didn't matter. They were best friends and that was that.
The instant she woke up, she knew that it was early. Barely any light reflected off the stone walls. Thank goodness it was summer, or else the nights would be to cold to handle, and she didn't have any money, so going to an inn was out of the question. She gazed at Courtney, who was sound asleep. She got out of bed, careful not to make a sound. She walked up a flight of stairs to find a bush. She moved the bush aside and exited Courtney's home. Stars glittered ahead. She walked over to about three feet away from the edge of the cliff, gazing at the placid ocean. She then lay down, gazing at the sight for hours until she saw something glow. Red light was eminating from something near the roots of a tree. She got up from her cozy spot and walked to the object. She bent down and picked it up. When she touched it, her hand got warmer. When she looked at it, she saw something that seemed to be a stone made entirely of embers.
The stone literally radiated heat. It was rising steadily. She had an idea. She picked up a dead branch and thought
of a fire. The stone radiated heat further. The stick grew hotter. And hotter. And hotter. Eventually, on the end of the stick, a fire burst to life. It was slowly crawling down the stick. If she didn't get rid of it soon, she would be burned! She ran to the edge of the cliff and threw the blazing stick over the edge. It hit the water with a barely audible plop. How she was able to hear that, she didn't know. The edge of the cliff must have ben a thousand feet above sea level. She gazed at the dangerous beauty of the stone. She couldn't remember when, but she eventually fell asleep. When she woke up, it was still early. Only about an hour has passed. One thing she noticed is that she didn't need a lot of sleep. The stone was considerably hotter, And was steaming a bit in the cool night breeze. She found a bunch of sticks and pine straw and put the stone on it. She went underground into Courtney's home, she saw Courtney snoozing on her bed. She carefully made her way back out. She smelled something funny the instant she stepped out. It was coming from where she last left the egg... She turned in the direction of the egg and found the 'bed' she made for the stone on fire. She ran torwards the stone. The fire then went out. Instantly. It dissapeared into nothing, like a comet. That was when she saw the first crack on the stone.
She couldn't explain it. It wasn't there before. A vague idea formed in her mind. It couldn't be! Wouldn't she have known earlier if it was?! Another crack crept along the side of the stone. A puff of steam came out of the stone. One piece of the stone fell off. The instant it touched the soil, it dissolved into ashes. Two eyes of the darkest of black gazed at her with interest. Then the rest of the body crawled out of the stone. But it wasn't a stone. It was an egg. More to the point, a dragon's egg.
