Only we can walk away

They deplore racism
but when it’s heard
loud and clear
with video evidence
in a court of law,
a rich England captain
protected by denial
and a Queen’s Counsel
is told by the judge
that’s he’s good in the box
and walks away a free man.
They deplore corruption
but when it’s seen
in black and white
with a dog’s name attached
in a court of law,
a rich near England manager
protected by denial
and those who came before him
is told by the judge
that he’s good in a tight corner
and walks away a free man.
They deplore sexual depravity
but when it’s hidden
from the people
with no name to slander,
lost in the wind of time,
a rich Great Britain captain
protected by money
and super injunctions
is scolded by his wife
who reads about her sister-in-law
but never walks away.
They deplore double standards
but they hate us even more,
and if justice had a name
it could never be printed
in a newspaper,
but while they may go to church
and secretly pray to the devil
as they watch dust dance
in the sunlight of stained glass,
we should be grateful
that only we can walk away.
