‘Hello old bean! Fancy meeting you here!’
‘Hello mate! Well well, long time no see! It must be at least a year! How’s that lovely little lady-friend of yours?’
‘Not seen her for a long time. Woke up one morning just after Christmas and she’d done a runner. No note, nothing.’
‘Sorry to hear that, you must miss her. I must say she was a proper looker, slim and shapely, always looked as fresh as a daisy’.
‘Watch your mouth lad - it weren’t you tickled her fancy was is?’
‘Sorry mate, no offence, I should have known it would still be a bit raw’.
‘None taken lad. I guess she was just stringing me along anyway. Made me feel like a bit of a has-bean. Anyway, how’s Mary and the young ‘uns?’
‘Same story here mate. Legged it some time back with the whole bunch of them’.
‘Aw sorry laddie, did she run off with someone too?’
‘Dunno mate, don’t care really. There was talk of a navy type, but nothing proved. She was past her best anyway and getting quite broad in the beam’.
‘Still, you must miss the nippers?’
‘Yeah, a bit, though I didn’t have much to do with them really, Sean just lay there moaning about people picking on him, the girl just sat there all day curling her hair and playing with her i-pod and the baby, Hari, just spent all day in his cot.’
‘That’s the younger generation for you. No get up and go. So what have you been doing with yourself? Just hanging about mostly like me I guess. Terrible Winter we had wasn’t it? I don’t remember one like it’.
‘Oh mate, I was frozen stiff. Couldn’t move at all for a bit. Only just got over it actually. And no love to keep me warm either!’
‘Ha ha I know what you mean lad. I was the same myself, what with the arthritis, and that icy spell didn’t help much’
‘Still, its definitely getting warmer now, in fact I’m starting to sweat!’.
‘Yep I think it’s time we went, I’m feeling the heat a bit too’.
‘Bye maaaaaaaate aaah this water’s bloody boiling! It was good to see you!’
‘Aaaaah bloody hell you’re right. I don’t know how those carrots in the other pot stand it! .
‘Oooh aah ttfn mate. It’s been nice seeing you again’.
‘It’s been great. Perhaps we’ll meet at dinner’.
