Teddy Bears Love Autumn

Autumn is the time of year
that teddy bears love best;
a time when bears forget their cares,
put up their paws and rest.

When the leaves of sycamores
are falling to the ground
and covering the forest floor
in shades of golden brown.

That’s when bears, with weary eyes,
lay down their furry heads
and Mother bears sing lullabies
to bear cubs in their beds.

Then they drift into a dream
of happy Summer days
when, once again, the sun will gleam
and they will laugh and play.

I am a bit old for teddy bears and bears have such terrifyingly sharp claws but of course this is sweet. The only thing that doesn't really sleep is the wind, isn't it?

I think there's something sort of human about Bears that people relate to and that's why Paddington Bear and Winnie The Poo are so popular. I know that people criticize Disney cartoons and cuddly animals for being unrealistic but I think that Teddy Bears (and cuddly, cute anthropomorphized depictions of nature) have been the environmentalists greatest ally. They're a good bonding tool. They teach little urban kids an affection for nature and I think alot of people who donate to animal welfare charities originaly learned their love of animals from cartoons, cuddly toys and pets. No, the wind doesn't sleep but it has different moods. Sometimes its calm, carefree and breezy and at other times tempestuous. It always reminds me of a wandering spirit. Glad you thought it sweet.

Well, Spring has an egg-distributing rabbit; Winter has flying reindeers and all Autumn has is poor Guy Fawkes and a grinning Pumpkin but Autumn's such a lovely time of year that it really doesn't deserve just to be associated with Ghosts and Gunpowder Plots. Teddy Bears are nice cuddly toys that we fall asleep with; Bears (atleast some Bears) are hibernating creatures so Autumn and Teddy Bears just seem made for each other.

Teddy bears are cuddly and of course I am a softy for them. Maybe cuddly toys are cuddly because in nature they are not to be cuddled. Anyway animals are a very important part of anyones childhood. I guess fundamentally we are thankful to the animals whether they are tame or wild. Yes you are right- teaching children about nature and bonding with toy animals. My Mother never wanted animals so I grew up in a flat without pets in the middle of a big city. NO dogs, cats or anything and I was very fond of my teddybear. ;) ;) Pia
