Shutter the Wind

The wind arrives in gutsy
action---leaves cowering under the
threat of an announcing storm
weatherman says so. And I linger
in my stare at sky’s warning squint
clouds roiling
mumbling my way
as I hasten to shutter windows
a big one on the way. Last
week 85 mm in twelve hours--
took a good look at the parched
land and soaked it through to China.
Now I am aware of the power
in Nature’s might
with stares of delight at my
weakening light. I am more than
a little nervous. My tomatoes
won’t stand the pace of frenzied
droplets upon the vine
and I surrender to
unrelenting wind and rain.

Altogether a very well written and enjoyable piece. I think the poem really comes to the fore in the least to stanzas, building with momentum and a force that, in a way, mimics the subject. I particularly love S4. The rhyme of 'might', 'delight' and 'light', with the rhythm a enjambment into S5, really tighten the poem up and fine tune the delivery of you intentions.
One thing that threw me off course a little is the use of 'flicking' in S5. It doesn't seem to carry the power of the approaching storm, and doesn't justify your being 'more than a little nervous.'
Other than that single point, a very very fine write!
Admirable.
Cheers,
Steve.

You've captured the apprehension felt before a storm well here, Richard. Especially after weathermen have said it might be bad, and precious plants are at stake. How about "frenzied" droplets?
