HER HAND IN MARRIAGE

hello, my name is hans and i am here to tell a story
that some may think is beautiful, and others may find gory
the tale is very moving and my eyes may start to swell
its of my life with my sweet wife, my dear emmanuelle
we fell in love so quickly, our relationship so stable
that it was never questioned, we would marry soon as able
a love of the exotic and adventure we both shared
so off to south america, a trip we had prepared
we longed to cruise the amazon, a swift and winding river
to conquer mother nature, set our pair of hearts a-quiver
we packed up our supplies and then we climbed into our boat
with expectations very high, we soon were set a-float
the next part of this story is a scene of violent drama
we found ourselves in panic when attacked by wild piranha
the boat was rocking madly and i screamed out "oh my lord ! "
because my sweet emmanuelle had fallen overboard
i tried my best to pull her from the water filled with fury
her eyes a-bulge with horror and her brow all creased with worry
i thought i'd acted quickly but those fish were so depraved
they devoured her in seconds, her left hand was all i saved
i'm not the kind of gentleman who's easy to disparage
i took her to her father, asked him for her hand in marriage
he found this rather quirky but he gave me his consent
so i picked up emmanuelle and hand in hand, we went
she had no need for wedding garb, that part of her had perished
but she still had a finger that could wear an item, cherished
i took her to a jeweler and he helped us choose a ring
he worked on a commission so he didn't say a thing
"but who would want to marry us ? ", i thought with apprehension
"i know of a blind minister", a friend of mine had mentioned
we married on palm sunday, the locale, the finger lakes
my hands were trembling wildly, but she never got the shakes
but all the fear within me quickly turned to jubilation
the minister with milky eyes began his recitation
i said she was the one for me when he asked for my choice
and then i said "i do" for her, but in a higher voice
i reached into my pocket then and i began to fidget
i found the ring that i had stashed and slipped it on her digit
"i now pronounce you man and wife ! ", the minister then cried
my eyes were filled with teardrops as i softly kissed my bride
and we have stayed together as the passing years unraveled
we never lost our wanderlust, to many spots we've traveled
and she'll be going with me when i make that final trip
all snuggled in our coffin with our hands locked in a grip
