Luna – ode to a lost dream

To the heady sound of Rock’n’Roll
Gaia slips behind the curtain
To be taken by surprise
by a young man named Gagarin
Who, without a ‘By your leave’
thrusts his way up through her hymen
With innocence went privacy
in a series of public one-night-stands
Knee-tremblers on prime TV
seen in towns in every land
In black & white and shades of grey
Gaia was in great demand
Along came a man with a glint in his eye
and a certain way with words
He raised his finger to the sky
and spoke of other worlds
The stage was set, the press were briefed
the banner was unfurled
The young men swooned and stammered
as she swept into the room
And dropped their tongues for Luna
our shy, demure moon
From this smiling cove, the young men
learned the art of foreplay
No amount of naked courage
would land them Luna in a single day
So began the affair
that would captivate the world for years
Where patience and precision
found their place alongside sweat and tears
Soon it seemed the suitors had all
fallen under Luna’s spell
She waited, winking, in the corner
satisfied that all was well
While Gaia became modesty
and watched Luna flirt
The men lost all propriety
and flew in threes from Gaia’s skirt
Many years of bridled passion
climaxed in a single night
The greatest extra-marital affair
was played out on Apollo’s flight
As Luna filled the cabin
the air was still, the night was hot
And in the silent towns
eyes were wide and hearts were stopped
Luna dropped her dress
lay down and let loose her hair
And all mankind gasped as one
for every soul was there
But passion cannot last for long
as every adult knows
Luna knew the men must leave
and picked up her clothes
They sighed, and gazed towards their home
and everything they knew
Then gave her one last lingering look
and back to earth they flew
Luna waned, the years passed
and little startles earth's TVs
Luna's only influence
is felt on Gaia's bulging seas
But one-by-one her men return
to join her in the sky
Today we learned Neil Armstrong
is the latest one to fly
