The Sidewalk

is a tongue of asphalt for
anyone willing to take the risk

passing a church filled
with wishers
hope guided by prayerful urges

a skateboarder climbing
sidewalk’s edge --
activity in frenetic supply

the Post Office waylaid
with messages
accommodated by a flow of
machinery
and Union voices

cars hurrying by
name brands and other sorts
a flash of chrome fittings
and mirage of colour

places to go
passengers delivered.

Soon journey’s end – a
Crosswalk with intentions
safety and guidance through the
natural flow of city life.
