Love, cherish and do not take for granted
that most generous of gifts from god to man,
the truly sacred mystery of love;
the secret of lighting love’s eternal flame.
As one water mixes with another
do our spirits and our hearts combine
bursting into love’s ever-blazing fire,
brighter than all the brightnesses of Heaven,
the joy of a thousand spring times in our hearts;
all the treasures of the angels shared between our lips
and a light that will burn beyond the dying of the sun.

Yes, there are different kinds of love (platonic, maternal etcetera) and this is more of a romantic and idealized poem for a young couple. Eternal love seems difficult to imagine. I know that Mormon's think that Marriage Vows are binding after death. I think that love of all kinds is under so much threat from hate and greed that, the idea of eternal love is very appealing to me. I hope that love, of all kinds, can endure and survive forever.

Thanks, alvin. I am inspired by the poems of William Blake and they are very religious in tone and talk about romantic love as something spiritual and sacred. I'm also inspired by esoteric, occult things like Mithraism, Rosicrucianism and Alchemy because my brother was very into all of those things and I liked the idea of 'The flame of love' being a secret knowledge or gift given by god, the way that Prometheus gave Man (in Ancient Greek Myth, anyway) the secret of making fire. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm just in love with life, PJ. I also like the idea of enduring love, since we live in an age when hasty marriage and divorce have become the norm. I like the idea of trying to make things work rather than just giving in and quitting.
