i move from person to person
hoping one will be my father;
some enthusiastic words
and a passion for humanity
might wash over me,
purge years
of waiting for approval,
of impenetrable pride,
of ignoring one’s weaknesses
(and focussing on mine).
it never comes,
and i am the one
who must hold the olive branch
out to him,
as he gruffly tells me
‘i don’t like olives’.

Parent's seldom do the best
Parent's seldom do the best things though some do try most of the time I think.
This is sad Steve but very good. The allegory with the olive branch is great.

Ooh that's good ISD. I (think) that I am a lot, lot older than you but you captured my thoughts and my sentiments. Thanks.

Strong message, Steve. Nice attack I would say, if it were a piece on guitar. You made every word count.

Powerful stuff, Steve. I know what it's like to have father issues. It's tough. You've captured the pain pretty well. Congrats on the cherries.
