I t was one of those old posters that impelled me get on the train in the first place:
See Britain by Rail.
Kings Cross had changed quite basically since I last passed through but it's still terminal. I changed at York and made my way east towards the sea. From the slower train I could make out another poster, a representation of a blue mural. It implied people come from all over to see it. It wasn't my destination but I decided to visit. Spur of the moment job. Following the signs I entered the stone building where the mural was indicated inside. I walked in but couldn't see it. I was right up against the wall. I asked someone, I think it was anyone, where is the mural, I can't see it. It felt like a long way to come for nothing and that style of poster typeface always seemed so trustworthy.
Everything was kind of blue. The reply was , you can't see it because you are in it, it all becomes clearer if you stand back from the wall. And there is was, as clear as the sea it was depicting.
Later I checked my ticket, I'd only bought a single; enough decisions for one day.
