Secrets

She turned her page softly by the candlelight, watching her sister across the room. Jealousy burned within her heart. Her sister, so...perfect. She was ahead in her studies, beautiful beyond belief, and betrothed to the greatest boy in the world.
“Aren’t you ever going to read another book Cecilia. You’ve been on that one for ages,” Her sister sighed, concentrating on her sewing.
“One day perhaps, but this is a special book.” She replied, flipping the page.
Her sister rolled her eyes and shook her head slightly, her inky black hair shining in the dim light of the fire.
“Well, it better be done by my wedding.” She snipped, yanking the string tightly with her needle.
Cecilia felt like her stomach had been punched and then kicked down. The breathe was sucked out of her.
“Oh, it will be,” She whispered as a light coat of sweat appeared on her forehead below her golden curls.
“Good. And where is Samuel? He should be here by now!” She shrilled, looking around.
“I have no idea,” Cecilia stated, raising her eyebrows.
Out in the stable. Where he wants to be. Cecilia thought to herself, imagining him grooming one of the muscular horses, glossing their coats. But her sister didn’t want him out there, with the ‘peasants’.
The door burst open, a lean, dark haired young man entering the small room. Cecilia’s heart leapt like her sister did out of her chair. She flew into his arms, planting her lips on his. Pushing down her anger, Cecilia glanced over at the window, watching the moon fade in and out of clouds.
“I missed you Sammie!” Her sister cried, stepping back from her embrace.
“Me too,” Samuel replied, glancing over at Cecilia with azure blue eyes.
Her sister started to drone on and on about her boring day of sewing and trying on wedding dresses, but he barely glanced at her. Blood rushed to Cecilia’s fair cheeks, flushing them a bright pink.
They had kissed before. On a clear night, she and Samuel were outside, in her gloriuos garden of red roses and thick hedges, hiding them from unwanted eyes. She remembered how his eyes gazed into her when he slowly slid his hands around her waist. She never wanted their lips to part.
“Are you okay? Staying here with Cecilia for a while? Mother wants me to meet with her for an hour or two. I don’t want little C alone,” She asked, making a baby face.
Samuel grinned, “Of course not. It would be my pleasure,”
“Perfect,” She pecked him on the lips before leaving the room.
Samuel stared at Cecilia for a few seconds, then slowly closed the door, locking it behind him.
Cecilia lowered her eyelids, rising from her chair, her book dropping to the floor. As if there was no such thing as space in between them, they crashed together, two bodies colliding, face as well.
Just another little secret from my sister..
