SUNKEN TREASURE

the beauty of a person
nestles underneath the skin
sometimes it's hard to see that charm
if buried deep within
although they may seem friendly
beaming smile and dancing eyes
in efforts to not let you in
they're draped in a disguise
but you i have unfolded
like a book i'm thumbing through
my love has let you share
the sunken treasure that is you
your skin is very soft
despite the armor underneath
your smile is sweet and bright
and none can see the sharpened teeth
you have no need for hurt
for you have felt that sting before
but i have brought a gift
that let you open up your door
your landscape has unfolded
like a land i'm thumbing through
my love has let you share
the sunken treasure that is you
the sweater you wore tightly
loosened up and came undone
no need for the cocooning
when there's rapture in the sun
the gloves you had been wearing
with a texture rough as sand
have fallen to the ground
so i could hold your silken hand
your history's unfolded
like a map i'm thumbing through
my love has let me share
the sunken treasure that is you
