A Life Worth Living

Today I woke up and it seemed to me that I was bombarded with Steve Jobs quotes and references to his life. The one that touched me the most was the part where someone quoted him to have said that you can built a life that other people can live in. It is amazing how it still takes a long time for a person to realize that when you let someone else build your life, you give them the power to do so. It leaves you powerless and unable to make the decisions that you have thrown away the rights to. Our choices are placed in the hands of people who do not know what it means to be us. Is this really what we have to give up to have peace?
Do we have peace when we have no faith that our own humanity can sustain us?
Is the fear of falling into chaos so great that we don't trust ourselves to even have room to make the choices that are the most important to us?
I believe that human beings are born inherently good, but capable of evil. I believe this because the only person I know in the world is that way. When I get lost in the tumult of it all, I search for light and not darkness. When I am wrong I seek forgiveness from a God who is...well, love.
If I am a human being and you are a human being, are we not similar in that aspect, whatever our beliefs may be. Measures of control for the human psyche are like prisons. You are forced to spend the bulk of your time hidden away working just so that you can afford a bigger cage.
We are only truly free without those strings and in that moment of clarity, tell me what is in the deepest part of your soul. Peace or anarchy?
The problem I guess is as it has always been that we we are so young a species that we still have yet to learn how to share, or how to deal with those that do not want to learn how to share. Greed, lust, thirsts for blood; when we realize that no one can really stop us from doing what we want and give free reign to our basest desires we possibly might feel like there is nothing else but to continue on that path of moral gluttony until our life fades. But the truth is that the light in us is never extinguished. Even in our darkest hour. We can still change and be something else and change back again. We have the power to choose what destiny gets to hold us until the very end. The truth is that doing anything for a long time gets repetitive or boring and that goes for having what you want. Eventually you want something else, or you learn to moderate your desires. Its called growing.
You get to decide what survival means to you and what you want it to mean to those that inhabit your universe.
Build a life.
Nurture it, protect it and fill it up with all the things that matter to you, all your ideas. How else would anyone learn from your existence. This is what we are all a part of. Just because we are one society, it does not mean that we have to governed by one idea and one way of thinking, which might not work for us.
We only have the opportunity in the times of peace to exercise this, to be free.
Anything imaginable is possible but that does not mean that you will do it, just because it is possible. It's the decisions that we make in that space and in that area where our will surpasses anything else that may affect us. That is the power that we all possess.
When you realize this, you realize that there is no point in being afraid, what will be will be. You cannot control everything but you can control your will and that is all the measure of control that you will ever need. But if you give that away, then what do you have.
How long are we going to live other people's lives, instead of building our own?
