Disappearance (IP)

I look at the hook,
and cant believe
it’s empty of jingling, jangling
keys,
oh please,
where did I place them,
can memory trace them?
when did I use them
how could I lose them
again?
I crawl round the floor,
search sills by the door,
and go through my pockets
in jeans, coats and jackets.
…
When posting that packet
at the counter for weighing,
was my key ring just hanging,
dangling and banging
on my finger?
did I linger
to search through my cash?
… so, off in a rush –
‘Did I leave my keys here?’
‘So glad you came back, dear;
someone saw them on that little shelf!’:
so no-one to blame but myself –
thankful relief
that the absence was brief.

Hello Rhiannon,
Hello Rhiannon,
As you say a fun poem and cleverly structured. It resonated with me because my mum was always losing her keys and in the end she wore them on a piece of string and hung them round her neck.

Hi Rhiannon.
Hi Rhiannon.
You really capture that feeling of panic when searching. My grandad used to say, if you can't find something - stop looking and it will turn up. I'd add to this from painful experience - and keep a spare set of keys!
Loved this - its so me!

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
I certainly can relate to that panic of losing something important, and not always the joy of finding it.
Good poem.
