A WING AND A PRAYER

a bird made circles in the sky
and i could see the reason why
the bird, in question, sported just one wing
.
although his bird could elevate
he clearly couldn't navigate
all tethered like a kite upon a string
.
i watched this bird for quite some length
admiring both his pluck and strength
but realized he had nowhere to go
.
while spinning loops up in the air
i wonder if he said a prayer
or if he felt the need to even know
.
this made me think of you and i
who once were creatures in the sky
who kept things up, but wondered why we did
.
so easier to just let go
and acquiesce into the flow
just keep our fierce determination hid
.
yet, we grew wings of great design
yes, i formed yours and you formed mine
until we had a strong and steady joint
.
we both sent prayers to God above
and filled them up with hope and love
until our targets reached a single point
.
for people really get nowhere
with just a single wing and prayer
although, i guess, it's one way to survive
.
but when we coupled wings and prayers
dividing them in equal shares
the combination kept our love alive
