Two a penny, very many,
gushing, rushing,
worthless, reckless,
fiercely pierce,
curse, or worse,
provoke, or stoke
fires of hate,
can’t dam the spate,
regret you let
your tongue go wild
defiling and defiled.

Hush the gush.

Priceless few
precious, true,
gently defusing    
anger that’s tense    
with humour and sense    
carefully choosing
and using with thought
what should do good
and give support
to those who are caught
in grief, bring relief,
soothe and heal,
and you too feel    
pleasure, not shamed,
for a tongue, when tamed
is an invaluable,
immeasurable treasure.

I like it too. Now why does it make me think of the newspapers?! I like the movement of the words, falling downwards but it's also very measured. Very timely words.

thank you, Catherine. Yes, written words as in newspapers (or in people's often harsh, rash comments on newspaper article forums) same applies, but spoken words do fly easily and cant be recalled or edited out! Just apologised for and new attempt, I guess, but certainly better to be proactive (and prayerful for better control!)

Words can be treasures or weapons. Bit like water or fire. Just wanted to come back and say it's great when someone is aware of the power of them as you are. smiley

Thank you, Steve. It's good to have right aims, but we always need God's help, and often have to ask to be picked up and forgiven and comforted, and to trust that we are his in the Saviour. He knows we are yet weak, but have right desires that he has given us. His Spirit can be our Comforter.

Thanks, Jean. When it works, playing with rhyme, internal rhyme, similar consonants etc can help the meaning of what you want to say be noticed. Rhiannon
