Even Though it Might Never Happen

Will you know how to forgive the one you do not see?
For standing beyond the flicker of dark candles as they choke and fade
he seems unable to fathom, what happened to the love once shared
days crossed off merely mark the hours of lost years and lost memories
tearing at the walls of two good hearts; one cries out aloud; “remember me”
Happy Birthday darling daughter, will you forgive the times that could not be
within a heartbeat I would remove all the sadness of your world, if you cared
if you believed, if you could only tell me why, you feel hurt by knowing me
then I would understand your heart and understand the flicker within my dark
if you just gave a sign, a simple merit to hope, even though deep down I know
that I will always love you, even though it might never happen…

This is lovely. So many
This is lovely. So many parents are estranged from their children. They feel emotion and are unable to share it with the person that matters. I had 6 months when my younger one was 13 and I only saw her once. Very heartfelt and real Elsie

I always feel like a bit of a cheapskate coming to a poem via a POTD. This is an exceptional piece and one that I am so glad that you put up. Well done on 'pick of the day', thoroughly deserved.
