January, yet I plan to paint our lilac tree in full bloom;
mix Opera Rose and Pale Violet for its blossom.
Use a touch of Burnt Umber for the trunk;
Purple Lake for the leaves, and Sienna – the buds.
 
Shall imagine the sky is Aquamarine...not a weary shade 
of Winter Gloom; that the sun’s coming out from behind 
a cloud; a dab of Chinese White, and a splash of Spectrum Yellow;
orange butterflies – Painted Ladies, swirl upwards from the fields –
baring themselves to a pallid, finger-nail moon.
 
A cat shall sit, pert-eared, beneath the tree – unlike ours;
sprawled at my feet – legs akimbo; its coat shall be a throaty, 
Lamp Black, and not this here moggie’s mundane shade
of roustabout, everyday-tabby. Yes; he’s still going strong.  
Twelve, next year.
 
And at the top of our tree a golden oriole shall sit – instead
of that drab grey pigeon sat there now, and it shall sing...
not coo, coo, coo.  But what colour should that song be?  
Colour it, maybe, a bluer shade of Out of my Head
Missing You.

A lovely touch of cheerful summer, and bright creatures on a soggy morning, - but yes, we have got a touch of sun breaking out at the moment - we value it when it comes! Enjoyed this, I would love to be able to paint. Rhiannon

I do dabble from time to time, and I really enjoy it, which is what's it's all about isn't it?  Hope that sun manages to win its battle with the clouds.  I think it's losing here, unfortunately.

Love the way you have used the water colours to paint the scene as you wish to see it and to bring in the mood of the piece which in itself is a communication of love. I also like the way you move in and out of the now. Lovey poem. 

It was strange to find this here today because I have just finished writing a poem using the idea of painting and describing step by step, a water colour picture, but of gold finches in thistles, using some of the colours you mentioned.

What a great picture you paint with words Tina. Loved that second stanza,  with the butterflies swirling upwards,  what a beautiful sight that would be.
