I once had a bee in my bonnet
About writing a Petrarchan sonnet
I tried time after time
To create the perfect rhyme
And then I realised that the composition of limericks also presented me with certain difficulties.

(I had to look up Petrachan sonnet and its different rhyme scheme, but it seemed to indicate there was an extra 'r' ie 'Petrarchan'. I learnt something anyway!

Yes Rhiannon, I will need to adjust this with my metaphorical spanner. Petrarch was one of these ancient stalkers he could not stay away from Laura. I have not yet got round to reading any of his poetry

Cheers. The sonnet are tricky, they are a box of eight intertwined rhymes then a box of six. Alternatively you can have eight, six and close with a rhyming couplet (you maybe know this) . They can be effective as a containment for bursting emotions or wild stories for example, holding it all tight together in a strictly structured box      Elsie

Nice one Elsie.  Sonnets are indeed tricky little fellas, like eating a mango - can get a bit messy but worth it in the end.
